Seattle, Wash. – In its November issue, Backpacker Magazine bestowed its new Editor’s Choice Snow Award 2011 on Outdoor Research’s Sensor Gloves, gloves that improve on existing technology for compatibility with touch-screen electronic devices. The Editor’s Choice Snow Award, in its first year, is the new winter-equivalent to Backpacker’s Editor’s Choice Award, which calls out what Backpacker’s editorial team believes are the best new outdoor products each season.
Outdoor Research’s Sensor Gloves are the first all-around outdoor gloves to use TouchTec® Leather. TouchTec Leather allows conductivity through the leather itself, with no need for a metal tip insert in the finger to make the gloves touch-screen compatible.
According to Backpacker editors, the Sensor “provides the best touch-screen performance of any gloves we’ve tried. … Testers (also) found the Sensor warmer than touch-screen gloves of similar weight.â€
TouchTec Leather improves on existing technology in touch-screen gloves in several ways:
• TouchTec leather allows for more natural use, because the leather can be wrapped around the sides of the glove rather than just being located on the tip of the finger. That’s important because people often use the sides of their fingers for scrolling on mobile devices. In addition, you can use any finger to operate a touch device, not just your first finger.
• TouchTec leather is warmer than other technologies used for touch-screen compatibility.
• TouchTec leather allows the use of a lining on the palm, which is not possible with current metal technology.
Beyond the leather technology, the Sensor Gloves employ 100-weight Outdoor Research Radiant Fleece, which is very warm for its weight and repels wind. They also use MotionWrap construction to minimize seams, and a contoured wrist construction for secure, snug fit.
Outdoor Research, a leading, independent manufacturer of outdoor apparel and accessories, also offers TouchTec leather in the Ambit Glove, a warmer glove aimed at skiers and snowsports.
