San Francisco, CA (Apr 22, 2021) — Climate Neutral, an independent nonprofit that provides a climate neutral certification for businesses, is extremely proud to announce its largest-ever cohort of Climate Neutral Certified companies. More than 230 brands completed the rigorous certification process, overseen by Climate Neutral, to measure, offset, and reduce their 2020 “cradle-to-customer” greenhouse gas emissions.
Climate Neutral was launched in 2019 with an ambitious agenda to propel corporate action on climate through streamlined carbon measurement, mandatory carbon offsetting, emission reduction planning, and consumer labeling. The Climate Neutral Certified label provides customers with a trusted 3rd-party verification that a company has taken full responsibility for its collective carbon emissions from the previous year.
Climate Neutral has emerged from a year of great uncertainty with its largest group of certified brands yet.

For years, companies have quietly known that they contribute to climate change, and now our certified brands are investing time to quantify and rectify that impact,” said Austin Whitman, CEO of Climate Neutral. “We are eager to continue helping these companies and hundreds of others as they invest in eliminating their carbon emissions, and engaging consumers in this critical drive toward a net-zero world.”
The number of certified brands has more than doubled over the past year, as Climate Neutral has worked to achieve large scale carbon measurement and corporate action. To assist in measuring each brand’s carbon footprint, the nonprofit provides access to its carbon calculator built specifically to help measure corporate emissions. The Brand Emissions Estimator (the BEE) takes high-level business data and computes a carbon footprint, and has lowered the barriers to action for certified companies.
All companies that achieve the certification must go on to offset their emissions according to Climate Neutral’s standards, and create reduction action plans to reduce their footprint in the next 1-2 years.
