Paddling Life Recognized

Steamboat Springs, Colo. (Feb. 2, 2009): When you run a first descent or complete a novel circumnavigation, you often tell your peers afterward. Highlighting its two years in the trenches bringing the paddling world up-to-date news coverage, gear reviews and more, Paddling Life, the industry’s only true green E-zine, recently received praise from Outside magazine as the nation’s best paddling site.

In a feature on the 100 Best Adventure Web sites in its January 2009 issue, Outside listed www.paddlinglife.net as the country’s best paddling site. It was also the only site included in the paddling category. “Our guiding mantra: Get the info you need, then get out the door,” say the editors who compiled the listing.

The write-up continues by saying, “PaddlingLife.net brings all of the features (news, reviews, links to real-time river flows, etc.) and none of the paper.”

The accolades were well received by the people behind the praise. “We’re honored to receive the recognition,” says founder Eugene Buchanan, a long-time fixture in the industry. “We’re putting a lot of time and energy into it, and it’s paying off in both consumer visits and advertising support.” He adds that the site has recently contracted with the founders of Oregon’s Epicocity Project to enhance its content, and has brought former Scuba magazine sales director Travis Gainsley on board to help with sales.

“We’re having a lot of fun with it,” he adds. “While the paddling industry seems to be working through some of its growing pains, the sport itself is still as vibrant, fun and easy to get into as it’s ever been.”
