Pearl Izumi, a leading worldwide creator of run, bike, and triathlon apparel and shoes, was honored to receive the OutDoor Industry Award for their brand new Ultra Short, at the 2012 OutDoor Conference tradeshow in Freidrichshafen, Germany. Judged by a panel of experts with extremely high active apparel standards, the Ultra Short won the jury over in the following categories: design, workmanship, choice of materials and functionality.

Initially unveiled in January 2012, the Ultra line was designed to support an athlete in motion over hours, varied terrain and weather conditions. The line is extraordinarily lightweight and highly technical, providing soft, stretchable, packable protection in dynamic, innovative styles that were an instant hit upon arrival. A natural extension of the glowing reviews the fall line initally received, Pearl Izumi expanded upon this line to offer ultra pieces for Spring 2013.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized at OutDoor Friedrichshafen for the Ultra Short and its unique design and innovative 1:1 Gel Flask Pocketing System which secures nutrition in an anatomic position on the body,” said Global Marketing Director Geoff Shaffer. “As both the ultrarunning community, and the running community at large continue to grow, we felt it imperative to expand upon the innovation and functionality of the ultra line by creating running apparel that benefits those running in warmer climates.”

Among the main features that mark the unique structure of this warm-weather 2 in 1 endurance short include patent-pending back pocket systems that allow food, flasks and other nutrition to be stored naturally and comfortably next to the body; a fully-integrated boxer brief using Transfer Dry fabric powered by Minerale for optimal moisture transfer, faster dry time and odor absorption; and a short shell that rides over the inner short for optimal chafe-free comfort.
