Beaver Creek, Colo. – August 19, 2014 – The 2014 PepsiCoTransRockies Run, one of the United States’ most storied trail races, concluded Sunday in Beaver Creek, Colo. after six days, 120 miles, and 20,000 feet of climbing. The six day trail run through the Colorado Rockies kicked off in Buena Vista as 420 runners started their trek to Beaver Creek, visiting historic sites along the way, including Leadville, Camp Hale, and Red Cliff. Thanks to all the volunteers, the TransRockies crew and PepsiCo, the official sponsor of the race, the 2014 TransRockies Run was an experience to remember.
This year’s podium winners represented the top running capitals in the U.S., including Boulder, Colo., Flagstaff, Ariz. and Southern California. Elite runners Magdalena Boulet (HOKA/Balega) and Caitlin Smith (Salomon/Balega) represented California’s Bay Area with their first place finish in the Women’s Open division with a time of 18 hours, 47 minutes. Only 12 seconds behind Boulet and Smith was AdiUltra runners Emily Harrison and Ian Torrence from Flagstaff. This power couple took the lead from the start for the Open Mixed division and continued their winning streak with a finishing time of 18 hours, 47 minutes. For the Men’s Open, Chris Brenes and Scott Jensen from Mercer Island, Wash. finished strong with their winning time of 20 hours, 39 minutes.
The RUN3 division of the TransRockies Run covered 58 miles over the first three days. Montrail athlete Matt Hart of Boulder, Colo. and Katie Arnold of Santa Fe, NM both took the lead from day one. Hart won the Men’s RUN3 in a time of eight hours, 48 minutes with Arnold close behind, winning the Women’s RUN3 in a time of nine hours, 17 minutes.
The 80+ and 100+ race categories consist of teams whose participants’ ages combine to 80 years or more. This year’s 80+ Mixed division winner went to Flagstaff runners Andrew and Shari White with a time of 20 hour, 39 minutes. Vancouver runners Hozumi Nakai and Jeremy Peters won the 80+ Men’s division in a time of 19 hours, three minutes while Katie Mazzia of Eagle, Colo. and Salomon athlete Sarah McMahan of Incline Village, Nev. took first for the women’s 80+ division, breaking the 22 hour mark with their time of 21 hours, 56 minutes. Winner of the 100+ Open division went to Laura Stephen of Brooklyn, NY and Dan Burrier of Abiquiu, NM for their 24 hours, 41 minutes winning time.
For the RUN6 Solo runners, TransRockies veteran and President of SaltStick Jonathan Toker of Southern California dominated the field with an overall winning time of 16 hours, 54 minutes for the Men’s Open division. For the Women’s Open, Becky Kirschenmann of Klamath Falls, Ore. continued to run strong and steady winning all six stages, placing her in first with a time of 19 hours, 29 minutes.
The TransRockies Run was a great success and an inspirational race to watch as people from all over the world took on the physical and mental challenge to push themselves for six continuous days on Colorado’s rugged terrain. The journey concluded Sunday with its final awards banquet in Beaver Creek, where 2014 Leadville 100-Miler champ and three-time winner of The TransRockies Rob Krar handed out awards.
