Petzl, a leading manufacturer of quality climbing gear and Hands-Free Lighting®, will join forces once again with Utah Open Lands (UOL) in a fundraising effort during the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market Tradeshow. Petzl will present the World Premier of “Tom Till’s Utah Open Lands,” a photographic exhibit dedicated to furthering UOL’s land preservation efforts and featuring properties already protected by the organization. The invitational reception will be held Thursday, August 9, from 6-8pm at Squatters (147 W 300 S), in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Since the initial premier in Moab in March of this year, the Petzl sponsored exhibit has traveled to galleries throughout Utah, raising awareness and funding for land protection and preservation of Utah’s diverse landscape. Petzl America has been a long time supporter of Utah Open Lands, most notably in helping to protect the 221-acre baselands of Castleton Tower. Petzl matched contributions from climbers during UOL’s recent campaign to preserve traditional access to the famed climbing tower, and continues to play a role in the stewardship of the baselands.

“Petzl has a history of teaming with Utah Open Lands in creative ways to protect our wild spaces,” said John Evans, Marketing Director for Petzl America. “What makes this
such a great initiative, and one Petzl is excited to be part of, is that while raising needed funds to protect Utah’s open spaces, Tom Till’s great images dramatize both the beauty and the value of these places to a broader audience. OR gives us the opportunity to bring the imagery and the issues to an audience that’s largely appreciative of conservation, and we’re looking forward to celebrating this effort with our industry peers. “

“This incredible gift from Tom and the sponsorship from Petzl will have a dramatic effect on preserving currently threatened lands for future generations,” said Wendy Fisher,
Executive Director for Utah Open Lands. “If we are to save irreplaceable landscapes from becoming a jumble of asphalt and concrete, we need the commitment of individuals like Tom Till and companies like Petzl who not only care, but go out of their way to contribute.”

In the Spring of 2006, renowned photographer Tom Till approached Utah Open Lands with the idea of utilizing his talents and the breathtaking images of Utah’s pristine
landscapes to further UOL’s ongoing land preservation efforts.

“I hope we can all look forward to the conservation of more important and beautiful places, as our state faces the ever-looming challenges of loss of open space, agricultural
land, wildlife habitat, and the unspoiled vistas that make Utah among the world’s most beautiful and special landscapes,” said Tom Till, regarding his generous donation of time, talent and photographs to the efforts of Utah Open Lands.
