Petzl, HERA and Ragnar Relay Series Team Up to Fight Ovarian Cancer

Longtime allies Petzl and HERA join forces with Ragnar Relay race series to raise funds.

Clearfield, UT – (February 6, 2012) Petzl, leaders in climbing equipment and Hands Free® Lighting, is teaming up with HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation and Ragnar Events, LLC – the nation’s top provider of overnight endurance relay races –¬ to raise funds and awareness for the fight against ovarian cancer.

As the official headlamp sponsor for the Ragnar Relay Series, Petzl receives free team entries to each of the 15 races nationwide, a $1260 value per race. In partnership with Ragnar, Petzl will be transferring these entries to HERA. Teams looking to support HERA with their entry dollars will give their fee directly to HERA in exchange for an entry spot. These slots will be awarded on a first-come-first-served basis, one per race. Teams will also be outfitted with Petzl/HERA team jerseys. Go to for details on how to form a team.

The selected teams are also encouraged to help raise additional funds for HERA to support their Ragnar Relay participation. The team that raises the most money in 2012 will receive a free entry for the Ragnar Relay of their choice in 2013. The deadline for the team fundraising challenge is December 1, 2012. With the entry fees and additional fundraising, this strategy is set to raise over $20,000 annually for HERA.

“Petzl and HERA have worked together for several years to find creative ways to raise both awareness and the funds critical to their mission,” said John Evans, Marketing Director for Petzl America. “This opportunity has the potential to raise a significant amount of money to help sustain their important work.”

In 2012, sales from Petzl’s HERAbiner carabiner will reach a $20,000 fundraising milestone. Released by Petzl in 2007, the distinctive blue HERAbiner kicks $1 of every purchase back to HERA, to help sustain their efforts. Now, HERA and Petzl are taking this partnership farther, teaming with Ragnar Events to create a new fundraising opportunity and broaden awareness.

“The HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation is deeply grateful to our wonderful partners at Petzl for this very fun, creative opportunity,” said Meg J. Steitz, HERA’s Executive Director. “What an incredible way for people to turn their passion into action by running the Ragnar Relay of their choice, helping support HERA, and raising awareness to stop the loss of women to ovarian cancer. It’s truly a win-win-win relationship, and we anticipate this partnership between Petzl, Ragnar, and HERA will flourish in the years to come.”

“Bringing HERA into partnership with our races presents a chance for both organizations to connect with our communities in a way that’s fun, personal and engaging,” said Ragnar Co-Founder Tanner Bell. “The relays are spirited affairs, and the competitors are eager to run not just for fun, but also for the greater good.”
