Petzl Releases the PICCHU Multi-Sport Children’s Helmet

CLEARFIELD, UT – Petzl, an industry leader in helmets, recently released the PICCHU, a unique new approach to children’s multi-sport helmets. The PICCHU is lightweight, sized to fit a child’s head, and is certified for both rock climbing and cycling uses. For improved visibility, the PICCHU also features a rear mounting point for the Petzl SiGNAL light and includes a pack of reflective stickers.

“We developed the PICCHU from the ground up,” says Jon Rockefeller, Petzl Communications and Marketing Manager. “We didn’t just take an adult helmet and shrink it. The benefit is a better fit and optimized protection for a multi-sport helmet.”

Petzl also sees the multiple functions of the PICCHU as a real benefit for today’s kids and parents. “We realize that children are inherently multi-sport users,” says Rockefeller, adding, “Space is precious and clutter is the enemy. Having one helmet that crosses over multiple sports reduces the collection of helmets and clutter at home or when packing for a trip.”

The children’s PICCHU and the new Petzl ELIA women’s helmet are welcome additions to the outdoor market, which for many years has been dominated by unisex products. “Petzl has always been on the leading edge of helmet development,” explains Rockefeller.
“We felt that the next step was to create unique products that were 100% dedicated to women and children.”

PICCHU highlights:
•Meets climbing and cycling safety standards for American and European markets (climbing: CE EN 12492 / UIAA; European cycling: CE EN 1078; US cycling: CPSC safety standard – cycling helmets for children of five years or older)
•Sized for children between three and eight years old (18.9 to 21.3-inch headband)
•Rear mount for the Petzl SiGNAL red visibility light
•Includes reflective stickers for visibility and fun customization
•Internal foam padding is removable and washable
