POC Receives Sweden’s Design S Award

POC, known for its innovation and commitment to helmets and body armor protection has been awarded the Swedish Design Award / Design S for the POC Receptor+ helmet. Founded in 2006, the Design S award is Sweden’s biggest design award. The 2nd Annual Design S Awards were presented last week in Stockholm, Sweden.

Awarded every two years, the Design S Award, is jointly managed by Reklamförbundet (the Advertising Association of Sweden), SVID (the Swedish Industrial Design Foundation) and Svensk Form (the Swedish Society of Crafts and Design). The award aims to reward Sweden’s best design solutions and to demonstrate that good design can lead to better communication, business, functionality and sustainability. In short, good design is a decisive competitive edge.

“It’s extra rewarding to be acknowledged for a product like the Receptor +, a helmet with sky-high ambitions that everyone told us would be impossible to succeed with,” states Stefan Ytterborn, CEO of POC. “With great commitment and determination from POC’s product team, we managed to come up with a helmet certified in both EU and the US for diverse disciplines such as skiing, snowboarding, biking, skateboarding and water sports.”

The challenge that POC faced in developing the Receptor+ helmet was to meet the diverse certification requirements of various sports. The Receptor+ features POC’s patent-pending ballistic Aramid penetration barrier, merging the two technologies of in-mold helmets and traditional hard-shell helmets, and using a unique double-shell system.

“The basic idea was to offer a space saving, practical and ecological solution for the growing number of multi discipline action sport participants that normally need an army of helmets to cover their needs,” notes Ytterborn. “It was a true team effort and we succeeded.”
