The festival was created in 2004 to highlight the efforts set forth by the Winter Wildlands Alliance to preserve and promote winter landscapes for human-powered users. The Backcountry Film Festival makes its world premiere on November 1st in Boise, Idaho and will then tour to more than 100 showings around the world. Funds raised remain in local communities to support like-minded, human-powered recreation efforts and to raise awareness of winter management issues, avalanche training/safety and winter education programs.
The films depict the soul and spirit of backcountry adventure, with submissions ranging from renowned filmmakers to weekend warriors who submit their best adventures for consideration. Skiers, snowboarders, snowshoers, mountaineers, and all others who pursue adventure will appreciate these amazing short films, all while supporting a great cause.
