Polartec, LLC, the manufacturer of Polartec® performance fabrics, is working with the Blue Star Mothers of America, a non-profit organization of mothers who have or have had children serving in the military, to provide soft blankets to injured soldiers. Polartec® is donating 1,000 blankets that will be distributed to American soldiers in overseas military hospitals.

The Blue Star Mothers have specifically requested soft, fleece Polartec® blankets because many of the hospitalized soldiers suffer from burn wounds and cannot tolerate stiff hospital linens on their skin.

“Polartec® has supplied all branches of the military with technical performance apparel for many years,” states Polartec® president, Andy Vecchione. “Providing these blankets is another small way for us to show our appreciation to the men and women of the armed forces.”

Polartec® will present the blankets to Blue Star Mothers on Sunday, Sept. 20, at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new canteen house on the grounds of the Canandaigua Veterans Administration hospital in New York. The canteen, the first of its kind in the country, will be a place of rest, relaxation and entertainment in a home-like setting for veterans and active duty soldiers home on leave.

New York State Assemblymen Brian Kolb, US Marine Colonel Joan Sullivan and Congressmen Chris Lee are all scheduled to attend the ceremony.
