January 8, 2013 (Los Angeles, CA) – RACERâ„¢, the premier source of ready-to-hang wall frames designed specifically for race bibs and photos, announces its sponsorship of Mission 29.2’s Haiti Marathon+. Mission 29.2 is a non-profit organization that organizes 29.2-mile runs in developing countries with a focus on raising funds for children’s education. Held in Ounaminthe, Haiti, the event will take place on January 16, 2013.

Mission 29.2’s ultra marathon stems from American missionary Martha Walker’s first journey to Ounaminthe, Haiti, in 2008 to serve in a local orphanage. Of the 8.7 million inhabitants of Haiti, over 50% are illiterate, and Walker was inspired to seek and provide exceptional educational opportunities for all children. Walker organized the first marathon in the area as a fundraising effort, and due to the limited route options, the run distance ended up being 29.2 miles long in order to finish the race at the city center. The distance would become a unique characteristic of this event, which would set this movement apart from a typical marathon and symbolize a larger purpose than just a running race.

RACER will be sponsoring the event, and joining the likes of Running Warehouse and Fuel Belt. “Sponsoring the Haiti Marathon+ is a natural fit for RACER, as the event celebrates an opportunity to promote education and an active lifestyle. Sport has the unique ability to inspire change and to break down barriers,” said Scott Power, Founder and CEO of RACER. “Our contribution of RACER Wall Frames, bibs, and innovative custom finishers medals made from bamboo is one way we are working with Mission 29.2 to use running as a tool to bring education to where it is needed most.”

After two successful years of American and Haitian partnership to run for this cause, Mission 29.2 has raised a combined total of over $27,000 for educational necessities. The proceeds and donations from the 2013 Haiti Marathon+ will be going to the Institution Univers Ouanaminthe School, Mission of Hope Educational Programs and race day costs.

Get involved with Mission 29.2 by making a donation, signing up as a volunteer, or joining the events of race day as a participant. To learn more, visit Mission 29.2 online at www.mission292.com.
