KENT, Wash. — On April 14th, thousands of U.S. veterans will migrate to Fort Worth, Texas to honor the legacy of former Ride 2 Recovery member and national hero, Clay Hunt, at the Ride 2 Recovery Honor Ride Clay Hunt. Injured veterans and the general public can register to cycle 25, 51 or 104 miles in memory of Clay. Raleigh bicycles is a proud sponsor of Ride 2 Recovery.
Ride 2 Recovery is a program that uses cycling as a means of rehabilitating the physical, emotional, and psychological effects of war. Challenge and Honor Rides hosted by Ride 2 Recovery not only provide a support network for veterans, but they remind the public that a soldier’s battle is not necessarily over just because they have returned home. Many of the veterans are battling the effects of war and returning to life as they never knew it.
“Raleigh is privileged to be a partner of Ride 2 Recovery and to show our appreciation for our nation’s heroes like Clay Hunt,” said Chris Speyer, Executive Vice President Product Development and Marketing at Raleigh bicycles. “We can never fully repay our veterans for their selfless service to our country. At the very least, we can support their admirable journey back home through Ride 2 Recovery by offering our bicycles as their vehicle on the path to healing.
”Clay Hunt, a sniper with the Marine Corps, served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Upon returning home, he fought depression and post-traumatic stress (PTSD). Despite his struggle with the aftershock of war, he helped other veterans as well as those affected by crisis with a contagious smile on his face. Hunt volunteered in Haiti with Team Rubicon, built bikes for Ride 2 Recovery injured veterans and appeared in a public service announcement for Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.
The Ride 2 Recovery, the veteran community, and all who were privileged to know Hunt were devastated when he committed suicide on March 31, 2011 at the young age of 28.
“Through the Honor Ride Clay Hunt, Ride 2 Recovery and Clay’s family are keeping these issues in the public eye, hoping to help others survive,” said Debora Spano at Ride 2 Recovery.
