2013 Environmental Awards Recognize Local Environmental Leadership

Local individuals and organizations committed to preserving and improving the environment were recognized by the City of Raleigh at its sixth annual Environmental Awards celebration Monday evening, April 22. The ceremony was held in the Nature Research Center wing of the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences. More 250 people attended, leaving standing-room only.

Raleigh City Council Member Randy Stagner welcomed the guests and discussed the importance of recognizing leaders in environmental stewardship and local partnerships. WRAL-TV Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel made a well-received opening presentation on the science of climate issues and WRAL-TV reporter Brian Shrader was guest presenter for the Greater Triangle Stewardship Development awards.

• Great Outdoor Provision Co. won the M/I Environmental Awareness Award for its four decades of demonstrated leadership resulting in positive impacts on land use policy, preserving the environment and providing year-round opportunities for local organizations to engage in conservation service;
