Hosted by 686, SIA and powered by Malakye.com RECLAIM PROJECT design contest will celebrate emerging designers AND environmental awareness

Can fashion and environmental awareness co-exist? Snow sports industry leaders think so and have created the RECLAIM PROJECT, which will honor both fashion and the environment during the 2011 SIA Snow Show (Jan 27-30) in Denver. 686, SIA and Malayke.com will co-host the design contest – The RECLAIM PROJECT – which will throw down the ultimate 72-hour design challenge to new designers during the Show.

The RECLAIM PROJECT will highlight three aspiring outerwear designers tasked to create an original garment from reclaimed materials, trims and left over items from 686’s production facility. Contestants will receive their reclaimed materials opening morning of the SIA Snow Show, Thursday, January 27, and will have 3 days to create a custom garment in the RECLAIM booth, located in the lobby of the Colorado Convention Center. The contestants will be introduced later that evening during SIA’s Snow Fashion & Trends Show. Each contestant will be given a workstation equipped with sewing machines, cutting table, tools, steamers, etc. to create their one-of-a-kind design.

Snow Show attendees will be able to watch the designers in action and vote for their favorite design in ballot boxes near each workstation. The RECLAIM PROJECT winner will be announced in the RECLAIM booth on Saturday, January 29 at 5P during a party celebrating all the designers and their creations. The winning design will be produced by 686 and featured in the 686 RECLAIM Collection for 2012.

The three RECLAIM PROJECT contestants will be chosen prior to the SIA Snow Show from an online contest appearing on 686.com, Malakye.com and siasnowshow.com. The contest will officially kick off the week of December 13. For more information on entering RECLAIM PROJECT, click here. The three online finalists will be flown to Denver to participate in the RECLAIM PROJECT during the 2011 Snow Show.

From January 27-30, 2011, the snow sports industry will take over downtown Denver to celebrate their passion for all things snow. The 2011 SIA Snow Show will once again celebrate the industry and deliver the hottest snow sports trends, innovations, educational seminars, product presentations, personalities, events, concerts, meetings, and parties. Attendees conduct business that can only happen at the Show – viewing full color-lines and major trends for winter 2011.12, meeting with key principals, and networking with industry leaders face-to-face.

The 2011 SIA Snow Show will be followed by a two day On-Snow Demo and Ski-Ride Fest, January 31 & February 1 at Winter Park Resort and Devil’s Thumb Ranch. In partnership with CCSAA (Cross Country Ski Areas Association) and in conjunction with WWSRA’s (Western Winter Sports Reps Association) Rocky Mountain Demo, this is where for the first time-globally, the market can try out the equipment and experience the latest technologies for ski, snowboard, AT, backcountry, cross country and snowshoe while mixing with their peers on the hill.
