686, SIA and Malakye.com design contest looks for the next big thing
SnowSports Industries America (SIA), 686 and Malakye.com are working together again to bring back the RECLAIM Project for the 2012 SIA Snow Show. Introduced at last year’s Snow Show, the RECLAIM Project is a unique design contest that cultivates emerging new talent and encourages environmental awareness. During the SIA Snow Show (Jan. 26-29), three hand-picked aspiring outerwear designers from across the country will compete to produce an original garment created from existing “Reclaimed†materials– creating something NEW with something OLD, doing MORE with LESS resources. The competition will be 72 hrs, Jan 26-28.
Three designers will have the opportunity to make an original outerwear garment from reclaimed materials, trims, and left over items from the 686 production facility. This year’s competition will be located in the middle of the Snow Show’s snowboard section in booth #3317, allowing for more interaction with the competitors mentors. The RECLAIM Project celebrates the creativity, functionality and longevity of our industry, developing a channel for encouraging and finding new talent.
“We are looking forward to the second installment of the RECLAIM Project at SIA,†says Michael Akira West, president and creative director at 686. “We had a very talented pool of designers enter the contest last year and it made for a full and creative atmosphere. This year, the RECLAIM Project is on the Show floor, so we’re hoping to drive even more traffic and attention to the future talent of our industry.â€
Snow Show attendees will be able to watch the designers in action and see the live judging by a panel of industry experts. The RECLAIM Project winner will be announced on Saturday, January 28th at 5PM during a party celebrating all the designers and their creations. The winning designer will receive an internship at 686 and many other incredible prizes.
To enter, contestants must submit their design entries to reclaimproject@686.com NO LATER THAN JANUARY 9, 2012.
