San Francisco, CA (July 16, 2018) – In the world of cycling, there’s nothing more exciting than that last mad dash to the finish line, and on September 8, 2018, the second annual Red Bull Bay Climb — a race that embodies that adrenaline rush — returns to Potrero Hill.
Red Bull Bay Climb is a straight line, uphill bike race on one of San Francisco’s most iconic hills. Two categories of cyclists can participate in this second annual event on September 8th: Fixed and Open. The Fixed category features a men’s and women’s division, but is restricted to a single gear. The Open category has a men’s and a women’s division as well, and a “run-what-ya-brung” spirit: any two-wheel bike is welcome — as long as it’s human powered.
The event itself is as unique in its construction as it is difficult. The race length is just 0.32 miles, but with an average grade of 15% — and a peak grade that clocks in at a quad burning 21% — this fast and furious contest is not for the faint of heart.
Last year, the race featured a bike royalty podium with the likes of Zach Morvant, Aria Kiani, Kym “Nonstop” Perfetto, Hanna Muegge and local boy, Chas “Captain of Stoke” Christiansen. They were cheered on by enthusiastic, supportive spectators who came out to watch this awesome, uniquely San Francisco style event. This year another all star stable of riders have been invited and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each category.
