February 17, 2014 (Vail, Colo.)—The Vail Valley Foundation is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the 2014 GoPro Mountain Games, the country’s largest celebration of adventure sports, music and mountain lifestyle. This summer, Vail, Colo., will play host to the 13th edition of the Mountain Games from June 5-8. Pro and amateur athletes (both human and canine) can register now at GoProMountainGames.com.

The first 200 to sign up in any event, excluding BADASS Dash, World Cup Climbing, DockDogs and Slackline, will receive a free waterproof smartphone case courtesy of Lifeproof®, including shipping. The first 30 to register for the Costa 2 Fly X-Stream fly fishing competition will receive a pair of Redington waders.

“Last year, more than 3,000 athletes competed at the GoPro Mountain Games with over 50,000 spectators cheering them on. With new competitions, compelling prize money and the best swag bag in the biz we’re expecting another record year,” said Mike Imhof, Senior Vice President of Sales & Operations for the Vail Valley Foundation, which owns and organizes the annual event. “To incentivize early registrations, our partners LifeProof and Redington have stepped up to offer a free waterproof smartphone case to the first 200 athletes who sign up, and Redington waders (retail value $499.95) to the first 30 people to register for the Fly Fishing competitions.”

The 2014 GoPro Mountain Games will offer more than $110,000 in prize money across nine different sports and 25 disciplines. One new competition at this year’s GoPro Mountain Games is the Eddie Bauer BADASS Dash, a substantial evolutionary leap forward for the ever popular and family friendly Mud Run. With divisions for elite athletes, amateurs, families and dogs, this obstacle course race is designed to be challenging yet achievable for all participants.

“As far as we know, this is the only obstacle course race in the world that includes a canine plus companion category,” adds Imhof. “We’re really excited to see how dogs and their owners navigate the course.”

To secure last year’s mud run pricing for BADASS Dash, before rates increase, participants have 30 days to enter the code “BAD” while registering at www.badassdash.com.

In addition to the new obstacle course race, pro and amateur dogs can also compete in the DockDogs Speed Retrieve, Big Air and Extreme Vertical competitions, as well as the Rocky Dog Trail Run.

The GoPro Mountain Games is one of the most family-friendly events in Colorado, with families comprising nearly a quarter of the event’s 2013 attendees. Throughout the four-day festival, kids can try kayaking, rock climbing, rafting, stand-up paddling, yoga, slacklining and ziplining all for free, and roam Gear Town to grab all sorts of swag from more than 80 exhibitors.

The GoPro Mountain Games also features three free concerts in the heart of Vail Village, an on-site adventure film festival, the Outside Adventure Film School, and Mountain Click photo competition. Musical acts and film screenings are still to be announced.
