REI Announces 2011 Board Election Results at Annual Membership Meeting

Outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) announced the results of the 2011 board elections during its annual membership meeting held Sunday, April 10 at its Seattle flagship store.

Outdoor gear and apparel retailer REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) announced the results of the 2011 board elections during its annual membership meeting held Sunday, April 10 at its Seattle flagship store.

Co-op members reelected Jesse King, Cheryl Scott and Michael Smith to the board.

King, who resides in Evergreen, Colo., was elected to a second three-year term after his initial one-year appointment in 2007. He is the managing director of Fulcrum Advisors, a privately held consulting firm for the corporate, government and non-profit sectors in philanthropy, organizational strategy and leadership development.

Scott of Seattle, Wash., was elected to a third term after her initial election in 2005. Scott currently serves as a senior advisor to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a clinical professor for the University of Washington School of Public Health and Community Medicine.

Smith of Seattle, Wash., was elected to his third three-year term after serving as an appointed director for three years. With extensive retail and e-commerce leadership, he is the former president and CEO of Avelle, the first “luxury on loan” company to offer women’s designer accessories. Smith is also the former CEO of Lands’ End, Inc. and nordstrom.com.

The board of directors also selected its officers for 2011. John Hamlin, of Austin, Texas, was elected chair of the board, and Cheryl Scott was elected board vice chair.

The board’s committee leadership was also named. The chair of the Audit and Finance Committee will be Michael Smith, the Compensation Committee chair will be Cheryl Scott, and the chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee will be Anne Farrell of Seattle.
