Seattle, WA – REI has become the first national retailer to sell MiiR’s inaugural commuter bike line, which includes three models: the single-speed Wave and the five-speed High 5 Diamond and Mixte frames. All models and sizes are now available at five REI stores: Seattle, WA, Denver, CO, Sacramento, CA, Perimeter, GA, and Atlanta, GA. Customers can also order any bike at REI.com and have it shipped to their local REI store free of charge. For every MiiR bike sold, the company donates a second bike to someone in need in Africa or the U.S.
“We are excited to be partnering with REI on distributing our new city bike line and spreading the word about our sustainable giving program,” said Bryan Papé, Founder and CEO of MiiR. “It’s a great partnership, as we have a shared ethic of helping people in our community and around the world.”
Just as their water bottle line provides people with clean water, MiiR has introduced bicycles that provide people with sustainable transportation through their one4one program: for every MiiR bike sold, someone in Africa or the U.S. will earn a bike through a work- or study-to-own program. MiiR has partnered with non-profit organizations World Bicycle Relief www.worldbicyclerelief.org internationally and the Boise Bicycle Project www.boisebicycleproject.org domestically to empower people to grow their local economies. Recipients are not simply handed a bicycle, they make a commitment that will magnify the impact.
The commuter bikes available for purchase at REI include the five-speed High5 and the single-speed Wave. The High5, available in the Diamond or Mixte frame (recently featured in the Outside Magazine 2013 Summer Buyer’s Guide), is comfortable for casual rides around town and reliable as your everyday commuter. The chromoly frame and fork are designed to fit racks or fenders so you can customize your MiiR bicycle. The Sturmey Archer internal five-speed hub is great for cruising the flats but also gives you gear options to help conquer those hills you find along the way. The High5 retails for $899.
The Wave is MiiR’s take on the single-speed commuter and is designed to be simple and reliable with undeniable style so you can enjoy the ride as you turn heads. Keep it chill with the freewheel, or flip the rear hub and have fun riding it as a fixed gear. The chromoly frame and fork are designed with plenty of room for fenders or a rack. The Wave retails for $699.
