CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – JUNE 7, 2019 – Rock/Creek, a southeastern specialty outdoor retailer, was recently named The North Face’s first ever Specialty Retailer of the Year. The new award was created as a way to recognize retailers that partner closely with The North Face to positively impact their local outdoor community.

As part of the award, The North Face donated $3,000 to The Land Trust for Tennessee on behalf of Rock/Creek. The Land Trust for Tennessee is a nonprofit organization that manages and protects hundreds of thousands of acres all over the state. The donation will go specifically toward the Mountain Creek Trail Project, which will become the first downhill mountain bike park in the Chattanooga area, and the first local recreation area to offer both mountain biking and rock climbing.
On the evening of June 6th, Rock/Creek and The North Face hosted a community event at Chattanooga’s Handle and Bar to present both the award and the donation, and to raise additional funds for the Mountain Creek Trail Project. Hundreds of supporters gathered and contributed another $1,000 to the project, bringing the total donation to The Land Trust for Tennessee to $4,000.
“We’re so proud and thankful to receive this award from the North Face,” said Rock/Creek President Chad Wykle. “It’s a testament to their partnership with Rock/Creek and their commitment to our outdoor community.”
In the past year, Rock/Creek and The North Face have partnered together on community outreach events like a Scavenger Hunt Hike at the Chattanooga Earth Day Festival, Reel Rock Film Festival and even an educational camping trip for Rock/Creek staff. Additionally, The North Face is the title sponsor of the Rock/Creek Race Series, which features five unique trail races each year.
Rock/Creek has been outfitting the southeast for adventure for 32 years, and its mission has always been to protect local lands while getting more people outside to enjoy them. Through event support, collaboration and special donations like the one above, The North Face helps Rock/Creek further those goals and continue to grow and support the outdoor community.
