RockyMounts Accepting Pre-Orders for New SplitRail Hitch Mount Rack

Two-bike rack is lightweight and expandable with single bike add-ons

BOULDER, Colo. – April 28, 2016 – RockyMounts, the company that’s stoked to carry your prized possessions, today announced its fifth product launch of 2016. The company is accepting pre-orders for its new SplitRail, a lightweight, expandable platform hitch rack for carrying two, three or four bicycles. Made of 6063 aluminum and chromoly steel, the SplitRail weighs a category-leading 44 pounds and features adjustable trays to allow optimal fit between loaded bikes. The new system will ship to retailers in May 2016.

“At RockyMounts, we’re cyclists who love to ride and we’re passionate about getting our bikes to the next adventure,” said President Bruno Maier. “We’re driven to improve the user experience and provide exceptional quality and value. The SplitRail is the latest result of that drive.”

The SplitRail uses a ratcheting arm to secure bikes without contacting their frames. The system is fast and easy to use and works with almost any bike – including those with non-traditional frames. It accommodates bikes with wheel diameters between 20 and 29 inches, and tire widths of up to 3.2 inches.

The SplitRail’s bike trays can be laterally offset by four inches to avoid seat and handlebar interference, and it comes with an integrated cable lock system that allows each bike to be locked individually. A locking hitch pin (included) keeps the rack itself secured to the vehicle. It also features a wall mount for convenient home storage.

“The SplitRail is efficient to load, and at 44 pounds, it’s easy to install and put away. But the key feature, for the 2-inch receiver version, is the versatility gained by the single bike add-on trays,” remarked Maier. “It’s unique in the category.”

Available for both 2- and 1.25-inch receivers, the SplitRail features RockyMounts’ proprietary anti-wobble system for a tight rack-to-receiver fit.

  • The 2-inch receiver SplitRail carries two bikes/120 pounds standard, and expands with single bike add-on trays to handle three or four bikes. Its maximum weight capacity when carrying four bikes is 160 pounds, or 40 pounds per bike.
  • The 1.25-inch receiver SplitRail carries a maximum of two bikes weighing up to 120 pounds, or 60 pounds per bike.

The SplitRail has an MSRP of $519.95 USD. The single-bike add-on trays are sold separately for $219.95 USD each. As with all RockyMounts products, the rack and trays come with a lifetime warranty.

New and existing RockyMounts dealers in North America can contact Alex Caurdy at Alex@rockymounts.com or (303) 402-0190 to preorder the SplitRail. International customers can contact their in-country distributor for ordering. For more information about RockyMounts and its products, please visit rockymounts.com.
