Identical twin sister duo and Founding Partners of fashionable and functional Running Skirts to race the 2014 Boston Marathon in Support of 2013 Boston Marathon victims; Proceeds from sales to benefit The Boston One Fund
April 1, 2014—(San Diego, California) RunningSkirts®, creators of the original RunningSkirts brand athletic apparel, are proud to launch their Limited Edition “Stars and Stripes” Compression Socks, just in time for the 2014 Boston Marathon. Following the 2013 Boston Marathon tragedy, RunningSkirts looks to show their support to Boston and contribute to the healing of the victims by donating 10% of proceeds from the “Stars and Stripes” Compression Socks to the Boston One Fund.
RunningSkirts is the brainchild of identical twin sisters, Cindy Lynch and Christy Baker, both competitive runners with the philosophy that fitness apparel and gear for women should be fashionable, flattering and ultimately, functional. The tag line for their colorful and printed line of compression socks is “Increased Circulation=Happy Legs,” referring to the use of 20-30 mmhg graduated compression which falls within the scientifically tested medical grade compression standards for improved blood flow to muscles and extremities. The unisex “Stars and Stripes” Compression Socks are available for purchase online at RunningSkirts.com (with free shipping in North America) and will also be available for purchase at the RunningSkirts booth at the Boston Marathon Expo to be held from Friday April 18th until Sunday April 20th.
Cindy Lynch, who ran the Boston Marathon last year remembers the attack with vivid emotion, “I will never forget that moment of vulnerability & terror of not knowing what was happening, the extent of the attack and whether there were more bombs or attacks underway.” The sentiment remains almost one year later, especially during her training runs leading up to this year’s race, “As I finished up a long training run recently, my 6 year old son has asked me, ‘Momma, will there be bombs again in Boston this year?’ His inquiry literally stopped me in my tracks as I tried to process the fears and thoughts that must be going through his six year old mind, and in all of our minds, and how best to answer.”
Both Cindy and Christy have plans to answer with their feet and will proudly toe the Boston start line with the victims and families in their hearts, “We Love Boston and will be showing our support this year at the race as we take on the prestigious 26.2 miles in our red, white and blue, ” says Christy Baker. Baker and Lynch will also be accompanied by fifteen Women’s Masters runners and five women’s open runners that are part of the RunningSkirts Team. The Masters Team looks to defend their title from 2013 and includes both Cindy and Christy who secured their bibs for Boston with impressive qualifying times of 2:57 and 3:22, respectively. “Every step of each mile, we will carry the victims in our hearts as we run united for Boston and our service members.”
