WALTHAM, MA (July 26, 2019) Saucony athlete and two-time Olympian Molly Huddle won the national 10,000m title at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the fifth straight time, clocking 31:58.47 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday night. Huddle, who now owns 28 national titles between track and road races, is the only American woman in history to win the national 10,000m crown five times in a row. Huddle’s other U.S. titles in the 10,000m came at the USA Championships in 2015, 2017, and 2018, along with the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials. The American women’s record in the 10,000m is still held by Huddle when she finished sixth in 30:13.17 at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Huddle used the last four laps of the 25-lap race to put away the competition. Staying with the large front pack for the first half of the race, she masterfully took the lead with four laps to go, steadily increasing the pace and shaking everyone from her tail. With a thrilling final lap Huddle secured the win and her spot on Team USATF for the IAAF World Championships in September.

“Most people know Molly as a two-time Olympian and one of the most gifted runners in the world,” said Anne Cavassa, president of Saucony. “We know her as part of our family, full of equal parts grace and grit and a champion of all the goodness that running brings. We’ve been honored to witness her incredible progression over the past decade, from a 10-time All American at Notre Dame to a two-time U.S. Olympian and now, a 28-time national title holder. The field in last night’s race was the strongest that she’s ever been a part of and she triumphed. The whole Saucony team is excited to support Molly in her build-up to the 2020 Olympics.”

“That’s pretty special,” said Huddle after her performance when reminded of her numerous national titles. “Track titles are hard, so those are really special. I don’t take anything for granted at this point in my career. I was really glad to have a kick at the end.”

Huddle, a 10-time All American at Notre Dame, owns three American records, setting the U.S. half-marathon record (1:07:25) at the 2018 Houston Half Marathon; the 5K road record (14:50) at the 2015 B.A.A. 5K; and the 10,000-meter record (30:13.17) at the 2016 Rio Olympics. In her marathon debut, Huddle finished third at the 2016 New York City Marathon and 4th at the race in 2018. Huddle became the first person to win three straight NYC Half Marathons (2015-2017).

Huddle, 34, is coached by Ray Treacy, who is also the Cross Country and Track and Field coach at Providence College in Rhode Island. Huddle lives and trains in Providence, Rhode Island.
