LEXINGTON, MA (August 11, 2008) – Saucony, Inc., a leading global supplier of performance athletic footwear and apparel, today announced that the Saucony ProGridâ„¢ Xodus was awarded “Editor’s Choice†by Runner’s World in the magazine’s annual “Fall Trail Running Shoe Guide.†The Xodus is the alpha shoe of the Saucony runAnywhereâ„¢ off-road collection that also includes the Progrid Guide TR. The award was presented at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The ProGrid Xodus is one of nine trail shoes featured in the review, all of which were put through rigorous testing by Runner’s World editors, 200 wear-testers, and the one-of-a-kind Runner’s World Shoe Lab. The shoes were tested for cushioning, flexibility and responsiveness. Three shoes were cited as best-in-class in the following categories: Editor’s Choice, Best Debut, and Best Buy.
“The ‘Editor’s Choice’ winner represents an outstanding shoe that successfully combines the highest quality design and technology,†said Runner’s World. “The Xodus received the highest marks from the Runner’s World Shoe Lab, the wear-testers and the editors. Noted for its surprisingly soft and lightweight feel, cushioned ride and sturdy outsole, the Xodus is recommended for runners looking for excellent support across tricky terrain,†said the Runner’s World editors.
“The whole Saucony team is extremely proud and excited to be recognized by Runner’s World for our commitment to furthering the growth of trail running through innovative product,†said Tom Carleo, senior vice president of product marketing for Saucony. “Our goal was to combine the ride and response of Saucony’s award-winning road shoes with the traction, protection and support that hard-core trail runners demand. Our partnership with Vibram®, from an outsole perspective, helped us accomplish this,†added Carleo.
According to the latest Outdoor Recreation Participation Study, released by the Outdoor Industry Foundation (OIF) in 2006, 40 million Americans run off-road, hitting the trails 33 times a year on average, for a total of 1.3 billion trail running outings. With the ProGrid Xodus, Saucony not only answers this growth, but commits to expanding it further by
leveraging the brand’s award-winning technologies, expertise and heritage.
Saucony chose Vibram®, to develop the exclusive ProGrid Xodus outsole, featuring Vibram®TC1Dura compound, formulated to meet performance trail-running demand, supple enough to grip on smooth rock or pavement, and firm enough to bite into on-trail soil and extend on-road durability.
Broad lugs around the Xodus’ sole periphery provide stability, comfort, and durability. Wedge-shaped lugs in the forefoot feature alternated orientation for uphill thrust and
downhill braking. Dedicated lugs in the forefoot and heel provide lateral security for off-camber trails. Multidirectional lugs offer the trail runner an uncompromising grip, while their open-spaced placement keeps mud on the trail, not stuck to the outsole.
The Xodus offers hardcore trail runners a cushioned ride and ultimate response on any gnarly surface thanks to Saucony’s proprietary heel ProGrid technology, SRC Impact Zone and HRC forefoot cushioning. The midsole’s super light SSL EVA maximizes rebound while minimizing weight. Saucony’s EBO (External Bedrock Outsole) protects the foot from rocks, while Arch-Lock® and a durable, breathable rip-stop textile upper give trail runners a confident answer to even the wildest terrain. (Sizes: men’s 7-13, 14 and 15, and women’s 5-12; Weights: men’s 12.3 oz; women’s 11.1 oz; MSRP: $100)
The entire “Fall Trail Running Shoe Guide†will be available in the October issue of Runner’s World, the worldwide authority on running information, arriving on newsstands September 19, 2008 or by visiting www.runnersworld.com.
