BOULDER, Colo. – SCARPA’s Bhutan GTX, a new boot for 2010 that combines big-boot support with the dexterity and easy break-in of a far lighter boot, was named ‘most versatile’ boot by Backpacker in the magazine’s annual Gear Guide to the world’s best outdoor equipment.

Magazine tester comments reflected SCARPA’s goal of building a light boot that would offer backpacking-level support with a more nimble feel and easy break-in.

“Impressive support for a mid-weight boot. Normally, my feet are fatigued at the end of a day, but after seven hours in the Bhutan, they felt great,” said one.

Another said: “It handled heavy loads in ankle-twisting terrain, but wasn’t too stiff to rock-hop.”

The Bhutan combines the sole and midsole package from SCARPA’s Kailash GTX, which won Backpacker’s 2008 Editor’s Choice Award, with a full leather upper for added support and more durability.
