Schnitzspahn Earns SALEWA Spring Scramble Champ Title

Showing an unprecedented combination of mountain-man brawn and ballerina-like balance, Elevation Outdoors Editor, Doug Schnitzspahn won the 1st Annual SALEWA Spring Scramble Championships on Wednesday, earning the coveted Masters-inspired SALEWA green Gore-Tex Jacket, and bragging rights for the next 364 days.

Schnitzspahn, went out strong and continued to grab key points throughout the SALEWA Spring Scramble. He showed classic form throughout each of the competitive events, which were organized to showcase SALEWA’s new Spring 2010 Footwear collection, which has just arrived in North America for the first time. SALEWA called upon some of Colorado’s most dedicated adventure oriented VIPs to take part in this vertically oriented introduction to the 2010 line, which was tested in the heart of Golden, Colorado’s Clear Creek Canyon.

Focusing on its three function (3F) technology, participants where introduced to four dynamic stations that exemplified SALEWA’s Fit, Flex and Support. Each station had a 5 point system, where participants exerted strength, mobility, and balance.

The anticipation was high over who would be the first SALEWA Scramble champion. As the judges compiled notes and tallied points, the contestants shared stories of boulder problems, highball traverses, and moments of total trust.

SALEWA North America reported scrapes, bloody knuckles, and a few cactus encounters throughout the scramble, but despite the tight competition there was only one winner who took home the top prize. Second place went to Tom Mason from Bent Gate Mountaineering, and third place to Brian Litz a freelance adventure writer.
