TDF-winning nutrition brand will be fueling all athletes at the marquee 100-mile
GFNY World Championships ride event
February 2017: Sports nutrition leader Science in Sport has just been named the official hydration sponsor for the queen event and World Championships of the GFNY Global Cycling Marathon Series: the Campagnolo GFNY New York City, on May 21st, 2017.
Already the official sports nutrition supplier to Team Sky, British Cycling, and USA Cycling, Science in Sport will be lending the Gran Fondo a full complement of SiS GO – the same scientifically-formulated electrolyte supplement which has fueled athletes competing and winning at the world’s highest level, including the 2016 Tour de France and at the Summer Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro.
Every GFNY is a premiere event designed to simulate the pro cyclist experience, with mass starts, individual chip timing, and fully closed roads or police-moderated traffic over the course of the event. Participants in GFNY NYC will embark on a challenging, competitive ride from New York City to Bear Mountain and back, to crown the GFNY Champion. Six fully-stocked nutrition stations along the 100-mile route will be prepared with SiS GO, a high-energy carbohydrate & electrolyte drink to keep participants fueled and hydrated during their ride.
“We’re proud to partner with one of the original, premiere gran fondo events in the United States,” says Tonya Wearner, Science in Sport’s Director of North American Operations. “Along with building a strong following amongst discerning endurance athletes who demand the best, we’ve developed all our products specifically for professional cycling outfits like Team Sky and USA Cycling, which neatly fits the spirit of the GFNY as it enables its participants to “be a pro for a day.”
“GFNY was the first ever all-comers race to perform anti-doping control not only at the finish of the race (in-competition controls) but also in the weeks leading up to the race (out of competition controls),” adds GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “Given that anti-doping is very important to us, we’re particularly picky who we work with for our on-course nutrition. SiS is the perfect partner because they are undisputed leaders in product control which ensures that their products are clean of illegal substances.”
To meet these standards, all SiS products, including SiS GO are manufactured in the United Kingdom at the company’s Innovation Centre in Lancashire. All SiS products are Informed-Sport tested and accredited; SiS worked closely with the HFL anti-doping laboratory to develop a world class three-pronged testing system to minimise the risk of product contamination – the world’s first nutrition manufacturer to ever do so.
