Seattle's Utility Inc Receives 2007 Store Fixture Award

January 2007 (Seattle, WA) – Seattle based full service design firm Utility Inc has been recognized by the National Association of Store Fixture Manufacturers, or NASFM, with a 2007 Store Fixture Award. The award for the custom fixture designed to showcase Ducati’s debut line of road bikes will be presented on March 7th in Las Vegas at NASFM’s official awards ceremony.

Created to help launch Ducati’s premier line of road bikes, the challenge was to develop a fixture that was more of an extension of the product rather than an invisible pedestal. In addition the fixture needed to stand out in a traditional display environment and adhere to a design language would be noticeably Ducati.

”The strategy for achieving this was to incorporate recognizable design elements,” recalls Bryce Anderson, lead 3D designer for the project. “The design makes use of the signature trellis framework while incorporating the classic Ducati red. The form taken by the cantilevered design evokes a sense of motion and draws from the sleek Italian styling that Ducati is known for. Other components of the design are the use of exposed fasteners as well as raw aluminum and steel that Ducati enthusiasts will find familiar.”

The team was successful in creating a fixture that doesn’t distract from the featured product. Instead the Ducati stand gives the bike a stronger retail presence.

“This low profile fixture elevates the bicycle while maintaining an unobstructed view of the product from all directions,” says Anderson. “The message to the consumer is that this bicycle is something to be noticed.”

The Ducati fixture has also been entered into the running for NASFM’s Fixture of the Year award and can be viewed on Utility’s website at www.utilityinc.com on the SKIP REPORT.
