Sierra Designs teams with Terramar, donates apparel to tornado relief

BOULDER, COLO. (For Immediate Release) – Sierra Designs, outdoor equipment and apparel innovators since 1964, has joined base-layer manufacturer Terramar in their “Community Rebuilding… From the Inside Out” project, providing 750 jackets to families affected by the massive tornados in Joplin, MO and Tuscaloosa, AL earlier this year.

Sierra Designs’ donation includes insulated outerwear and waterproof hardshells for men, women and children. With this donation, the “Community Rebuilding” project will provide over $400,000 in fall and winter gear to residents still recovering from these devastating storms.

“There are a lot of people still suffering in the aftermath of these tornados, so when Terramar asked us to join this project, we were in a position to help and we jumped on board,” said Sue Timbo, marketing director with Sierra Designs. “The combination of a worthy cause and a trusted partner made is easy for us to help out. Hats off to Terramar for spearheading this project.”

On August 10, a tractor-trailer loaded with outdoor gear from Sierra Designs, Terramar, and other sponsors such as Clif Bar, Manzella, Sierra Trading Post, Outdoor Research, Sole, Chacos, Merrell, and FRS stopped in Joplin, MO, delivering much needed apparel, footwear, and nutrition products to the local United Way for distribution. The next evening, the same truck pulled into Tuscaloosa, AL to drop off the rest of the gear at the Temporary Emergency Management Services center.

As members of the global community, Sierra Designs has supported several worthy causes recently, including designing and providing apparel and equipment for Eric Larsen’s Save the Poles expedition to raise awareness of global warming as well as donating several tents to the Resources for Rangers program which helps protect forests and wildlife in Southern Kenya.
