Silvia Guttmann Voted Winner of Project OR’s People’s Choice Award at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2011
SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, Calif. – January 27, 2011 – Outdoor Retailer (OR) attendees selected Project OR runner up and University of Minnesota design student Silvia Guttmann for the People’s Choice Award during Outdoor Retailer Winter Market 2011 at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, January 20-23.
Melaney Stevens of Oklahoma State University won the judges’ vote and overall competition during the show.
Guttmann’s design, selected by OR attendees from six student designs, met the specifications outlined in the Project OR design brief for a functional women’s ice climbing pant while still providing a fashionable, attractive garment for consumers. Guttmann used Polartec and Shoeller fabric for the body of the pant, with lining from Hyperbola, reflective material from JRC Reflex and 3M, YKK zippers, pulls and buckles from ITW Nexus, and padding in high impact areas from Poron.
Competitors in the sixth cycle of Project OR had 48 hours to design and create a working prototype of an insulated women’s ice climbing pant. The competitors’ garments were required to provide a women’s fit pant that allowed a full range of motion while staying comfortable and warm for long days of ice climbing and guiding.
