BOZEMAN, Montana – In 2009, Simms Fishing Products introduced its line of StreamTread™ boots – the world’s first Vibram® soled wading boots. The StreamTread boots offer traction, grip and stability unparalleled in rubber-soled boots and give anglers an important tool in their fight against the spread of aquatic nuisance species.
In the March edition of Field & Stream, Simms’ StreamTread™ boots are honored with a “Best of the Best” award. The award marks the seventh consecutive year Simms products have reaped kudos from magazine’s panel of fishing experts that test hundreds of items – from rods and reels to filet knives, jackets and electronics.
“Prestigious awards like the Field & Stream ‘Best of the Best’ help us confirm we’re on the right path with our StreamTread boots,” said Simms president K.C. Walsh. “Winning kudos is rewarding, but making products that change the culture of fly-fishing is even more important.”
Field & Stream noted that Simms’ unique HardBite™ Star Cleats, designed to work exclusively on the StreamTread boots provide superior in-stream traction. “These broad, flat, screw-in cleats are encrusted with carbide chips and recessed into the tread pattern; the result is a low-profile stud that gives a solid, metal-to-rock bite for better traction than plain felt soles on all surfaces, wet or dry,” wrote the Field & Stream editorial staff.
Field & Stream’s acclaims are echoed in the February/March issue of Gray’s Sporting Journal where editor James R. Babb writes that Simms’ HardBite Star Cleats are “stellar performers all around, within a rounding error of studded felt in the river and vastly superior scrambling through the woods and in the surf.”
In both Field & Stream and Gray’s Sporting Journal, the StreamTread boots are mentioned as part of anglers’ fight in the spread of aquatic nuisance species like didymo and New Zealand mud snails. Simms reminds anglers that Vibram-soled boots are not a cure-all and that anglers must check, clean and dry all gear.
StreamTread boots are available on six models, including one designed specifically for women and retail from $130-$220.
