Beaverton, OR (April 23, 2020) – Ultralight gear manufacturer Six Moon Designs announces the launch of a new two-person Dyneema shelter, the Wild Owyhee, from which a portion of sales will benefit the Oregon National Desert Association (ONDA). Six Moon Designs is headquartered in Beaverton, OR, and is a long-term supporter of the ONDA. This is yet another way in which they plan to back the local non-profit agency that was founded in 1987 to protect and restore millions of acres of Oregon’s high desert.
Named after Oregon’s Owyhee Canyonlands located in the far southeast corner of the state, the Wild Owyhee is part of Six Moon Designs’ Zero-Gravity (Zero-G) premium line of ultralight Dyneema products and weighs just 16 oz. It features full perimeter and vent netting, making it one of the best ultralight shelters for 360 degree weather coverage and bug protection. It has a dual pole design with a 48″ wide canopy that provides a great amount of headroom with the center peak offset slightly toward the head of the shelter. It’s flanked on either side with a zippered, vestibule door for storage and separate entry. The Wild Owyhee can be set up using adjustable trekking poles or optional aluminum or carbon fiber poles (sold separately), and dual tabs on either side of the canopy allow the Wild Owyhee to also be hung from a line between two trees, eliminating the need for poles altogether.
“I had the honor of thru-hiking the Oregon Desert Trail (ODT) in 2018 and the Owyhee Canyonlands is one of the most remote and wild places in the lower 48,” said Whitney “Allgood” LaRuffa, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Six Moon Designs. “This traditional land of the Northern Paiute, Bannock and Shoshone tribes contains areas that are considered sacred. Naming our newest shelter after this amazing place in the state that Six Moon Designs calls home just feels right.”
To help protect the Owyhee Canyonlands for generations to come, Six Moon Designs will give $20 of every sale of their Wild Owyhee shelter (MSRP: $600) to the ONDA so they can continue their work in protecting and restoring the land. About Six Moon Designs
Six Moon Designs was born on the Pacific Crest Trail by Ron Moak, an avid thru-hiker who sought out much lighter weight gear than what was available at the time. In 2002, Ron Moak introduced his first product the Europa Tent, a 33oz. single wall silnylon shelter, and the backpacking community quickly embraced the lightweight backpacking ethic. Soon, other innovative Six Moon Designs products followed including the Gatewood Cape, a combination poncho/shelter system and the Starlite Pack, a pioneering frameless pack with a large carrying capacity, all setting the bar for affordable, durable and lightweight backpacking gear. Today, Six Moon Designs continues to be on the cutting edge of ultralight innovation and strives to make quality ultralight tents, shelters, backpacks and other accessories designed to get more people outdoors. www.sixmoondesigns.com.
