.Ski Storm Hits Resorts as Ski Season Begins
.SKI is the fastest growing sports domain of all time, with 90 percent of the most visited ski resorts in the world registered
NEW YORK (November 8, 2015) — It’s only a matter of time before El Niño hits ski resorts this season, but there’s another storm brewing at this very moment – the .Ski storm. Dot Ski (.ski), powered by Internet registry StartingDot, is now officially the number one sports domain in the world with over 6,000 registered domain name.
Beating out .surf, .tennis and .golf, .ski launched as the fastest selling sports extension which is indicative of the fact that the snow sports industry is quickly moving into its own in the digital realm.
While resorts open and prepare for a powder heavy season, forecasts point to continued growth for .ski. Recent numbers show that .ski domains have been adopted by over 230 ski resorts globally, since its launch in early September.
With 90 percent of the world’s resorts that receive over 1 million visitors a year securing their .ski to draw web traffic, the future looks bright (and snowy) for .ski. Resorts that have joined the .ski movement and claimed their domain include Vail Resorts, Telluride, La Plagne and Val d’Isere, which utilizes www.valdisere.ski as the main URL for the resort’s dedicated day and season pass sales website.
Brands on board include edge.ski, providing tracking, maps, snow reports and weather for snow sport enthusiasts, Atomic.ski, the USSA, and shot.ski, a (you guessed it) shot ski company based out of Colorado. Taking a more personal, athletic approach, U.S. freeskiers Maggie Voison and Willie Borm are both using their Internet domain space to share their story, sponsors and videos.
“Our team has been blown away by the success of the launch of .ski so far,” said Rob Rozicki, co-founder of .ski. “It’s been inspiring to see how the world’s top resorts, brands, athletes and snow enthusiasts are creatively carving out their space in the digital world with the launch of their .ski sites. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the season brings.”
The best use of .ski can be viewed on the domain’s website, under the Showcase section.
With support and input from global organizations, including the International Ski Federation (FIS), .ski is part of the Internet movement of going beyond conventional domain name extensions in order to unify the innovation and passion of a specific industry. .Ski domain extensions are now available starting at just $29.99 at over 60 online resellers including Name.com, GoDaddy, and 101domain.com.
StartingDot is a leading European TLD Registry with offices in Dublin, Paris and New York City. Launched in October 2011, the registry has introduced three new generic top-level domain names (TLDs) dedicated to major sectors: .archi, .bio and .ski. The company’s TLDs help people and businesses clearly express themselves and unify their audiences. The company’s strategy focuses on TLDs in SME categories where the correlation between trade and domain name is critical.
