Big City Mountaineers, the country’s leading volunteer organization devoted to mentoring urban teens during wilderness trips, announces the launch of Skiing Magazine’s Skiing for Someone program. Joined by The North Face as a presenting sponsor, Skiing Magazine’s Skiing for Someone program will set a new standard for marrying highly sought-after adventure sporting events with a philanthropic venture.
An offshoot of the popular Summit for Someone benefit climbs, Skiing for Someone will take participants on multi-day cat and heli skiing adventures throughout North America while raising money for BCM’s youth mentoring program. Warren Miller Entertainment and Atomic are also providing critical promotional support and gear incentives to this innovative program. Athletes from both Warren Miller Entertainment and The North Face will be participating in each event and add a unique component to this program for its participants.
“Skiing Magazine sees the opportunity to help create groundbreaking backcountry programs that are both world-class events and lucrative fundraising opportunities for an organization whose cause we believe in,†comments Stefanie Luciano, Vice President of Marketing at Mountain Sports Media, Skiing Magazine’s parent company. “Everybody involved in this program will walk away with a once-in-a-lifetime experience while doing good for inner-city kids. We’re excited to launch this concept and are thrilled that the money it raises will allow BCM to offer its recreational mentoring program to more youth.â€
Joe Flannery, Vice President of Marketing, The North Face, adds, “The North Face has been a strong believer and supporter of Big City Mountaineers’ mission for years, and a sponsor of its Summit for Someone program since its inception three years ago. We’re very proud to now help create and launch Skiing for Someone, as it benefits a tremendous cause, and allows The North Face to continue to fund programs that create opportunities for youth to get outdoors.”
Skiing for Someone participants will raise a minimum of $2500 for BCM youth mentoring trips, which in turn will entitle them to one of five discounted backcountry trips provided by supporting guide services. Guide services supporting Skiing Magazine’s Skiing for Someone program include Alaska Backcountry Adventures, North Cascade Heli-Ski, Pacific Crest Snowcats, Ruby Mountain Helicopter Skiing, San Juan Ski Company, Silverton Mountain, and Telluride Helitrax. The combination of local guides and world-class skiing will make this a fundraiser not soon to be forgotten.
