BOULDER, Colo. (May 12, 2015) – Skiing Magazine, the world’s leading publication for committed skiers, and a brand of Active Interest Media’s Outdoor Group, is pleased to announce that veteran outdoor journalist Kimberly Beekman has been named editor. Beekman is the first woman to helm Skiing in the title’s 67-year history.

“Kim’s deep knowledge of the sport and love of the mountains will be a huge asset as Skiingcontinues to reach the most passionate skiers on snow,” says Allen Crolius, Vice President and Group Publisher for AIM’s winter sports media brands. “With Kim’s diverse editorial experience and Skiing‘s authority among mountain die-hards, the magazine will be more able than ever to inspire skiers with exhilarating content in new and engaging ways.”
Beekman joined Mountain Sports Media, as the group was then known, in 2004 as managing editor of Skiing‘s sister title SKI, and soon became a regular feature contributor to both publications, as well as the director of the women’s ski test program. An award-winning editor and writer, most recently for a story on the controversial launch of North Korea’s first major ski resort, Beekman will direct Skiing’s growth across new platforms and content formats while continuing its long legacy of compelling storytelling.
“Skiing has a deep and storied heritage,” says Beekman. “Authentic skiing experiences have always been the heart of Skiing‘s content, and through its expanding digital and print channels, the magazine is poised to speak to today’s skier in ways no other ski title can.”
As a Colorado native, former Jackson Hole resident, and lifelong skier, Beekman brings a keen understanding of the mountain life to her new position. She holds a bachelor-of-arts degree in English from Colorado College and lives in Denver with her daughter.
