Skirt Sports Announces Strategic Growth Plans for 2011
Company Relocates Headquarters Doubling Size
Boulder, Colo. (February 9, 2011) – Skirt Sports, inventor of the original fitness skirt and leader in the women’s fitness apparel industry, is proud to announce aggressive growth plans for 2011. Following a year marked with numerous successes, Skirt Sports begins the new calendar year with continued growth and opportunities on the horizon.
2010 proved to be wildly successful for Skirt Sports with gross revenues increasing more than 50% over 2009. The brand also experienced nearly 100% growth with its retail partners in 2010. This growth can be attributed to a multitude of factors, notably a compelling year-round product offering that includes versatile cold-weather styles, very strong proprietary prints and seasonal colors, and a successful launch of the Kendall Kollection – a designer collection benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Per 2010 Leisure Trends reporting, Skirt Sports leads the skirt product category (a category Skirt Sports founded in 2005) in Specialty Retail; the next brand trails Skirt Sports by over 50%. Skirt Sports plans to continue the momentum in 2011 with projected overall revenue growth of over 50%.
“Skirt Sports sales in 2010 were very balanced throughout the year which had a huge impact as compared to the first five years of the company where we experienced heavier spring and summer sales,†said Nicole DeBoom, CEO and founder of Skirt Sports. “Our 2011 forecasts prove we are no longer a startup – we are officially in the game now and we are incredibly motivated to make a huge impact in the women’s fitness apparel industry!â€
A direct result of the brand’s growth last year, Skirt Sports recently relocated its company headquarters – nearly doubling the square footage of its previous location to 7,810 square feet of office and warehouse space in Boulder, CO. The warehouse accounts for two-thirds of Skirt Sports new space, with offices and an onsite photography studio – a first for the company – filling the remaining space at 6205 Lookout Road. Skirt Sports currently has 11 employees and plans to grow its headcount to over 20 in the next four years.
“The growth of Skirt Sports over the past six years has been incredible,†stated DeBoom. “We were spilling out of our previous location and needed a much larger space to accommodate our operations. This move is part of our strategic growth plan and will enable us to effectively meet our expansion needs.â€
The next 11 months will include several exciting ventures for the brand, including the expansion of Skirt Sports active lifestyle category geared towards travel, recreational sports and everyday active living. Skirt Sports will also penetrate the golf and tennis categories with an appearance at the PGA Merchandising Show in Orlando later this week. Additionally, Skirt Sports will expand its highly successful Skirt Chaser racing series with its new retailer-driven Skirt Chaser Dash events – a series of Skirt Chaser runs of various distances. On February 12, 2011, Skirt Sports Skirt Chaser 5k will take place in Tempe, AZ with a second Skirt Chaser 5k scheduled in Denver in September. Skirt Sports has also slated additional retail growth in Australia and Canada, and will soon announce exciting partnerships with several pro athletes in the fields of running, triathlon and golf.
