Legendary climber Peter Croft will host two slideshows to benefit climber John Bachar and the family of Acopa Rock Shoe President Steve Karafa. Titled “Excellent Adventures,” the slideshows are slated for September 15, 2006 at Mammoth Mountaineering in Mammoth Lakes California, and September 21, 2006 at Brewvies in Salt Lake City.

“The goal of these slideshows is to raise money to defray medical expenses for John and benefit the surviving family of Steve by paying tribute to the spirit of adventure that John has always exemplified in his climbing,” explains host Peter Croft. Croft continues, “The outpouring we have received from climbers all over the country has been inspiring and it speaks to the strength and close knit nature of the outdoor community in support of their own.”

On August 13, 2006, while traveling home to California from the Outdoor Retailer Tradeshow, Karafa was killed when the car he, Bachar and Anastasia Frangos were in, crashed just north of Ely, Nevada. Bachar, who was driving, suffered serious injuries, and Frangos was unhurt.

All proceeds from the slideshows will benefit a fund set up to assist Bachar and the family of Karafa. Additionally, silent auction items from Black Diamond, Cloudveil, The North Face, Patagonia, Polartec® and other major outdoor companies will augment funds generated from ticket sales. Tickets will be pre-sold at Mammoth Mountaineering (760-934-4191) and the Black Diamond Retail store (801-278-0233). To make a monetary donation go to: www.mammothmountaineering.com
