SmartWool Announces New Management Assignments

Mark Bryden has officially been named the new President and GM. Christopher Hahn is now SmartWool’s official Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain. Les Wong has been hired as our Director of Demand and Supply Planning.

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, CO – With the close of 2006 business, SmartWool, the Steamboat Springs, Colorado-based manufacturer of high-quality, versatile merino wool products, continues to focus on growth and product leadership, SmartWool is pleased to announce the addition of three key new executive assignments for 2007.

Mark Bryden, who had been SmartWool’s acting President and General Manager, has officially been named the new President and GM, effective immediately. Gary Smith, President, Outdoor Group for The Timberland Company announced that the “acting” pre-fix has been removed from Mr. Bryden’s title. Says Smith, “I was grateful that Mark was willing to step in during a critical time of need for SmartWool, and I am even more grateful that he has accepted the challenge of leading SmartWool into the future as President and General Manager.”

With Mr. Bryden moving into the role of President, Christopher Hahn is now SmartWool’s official Vice President of Operations and Supply Chain. Chris has been with SmartWool for 3 years in several impactful roles – adding value and leadership to the company and to the business. Mr. Hahn will be responsible for the business processes at SmartWool that range across demand and supply planning, procurement and source base management and logistics – transportation and distribution. He brings a strong and significant background having worked for Accenture and Deloite consulting in supply chain process and value engineering and brings strong systems expertise and an incredible skill set in building collaborative partnerships across the chain.

Les Wong has been hired as our Director of Demand and Supply Planning. He will balance the company’s requirements to deliver high levels of customer service with the working capital investments targets needed to run a quality business. Les formerly served as the Director of Sales & Operations Planning and Demand Planning for Cadbury Adams. Mr. Wong is a graduate of Northwestern University with a BA in Computer Studies. He earned his MBA in Finance & General Management from UCLA’s Anderson Graduate School of Management.

The new assignments allow the company the opportunity to support sustained growth and to continue to make SmartWool the leading supplier of performance wool-based apparel, socks and accessories. For Bryden, who had been named interim President/GM on September 28th, the moves are critical to establishing the new SmartWool management team. “Chris’ extensive background, where he led significant improvement projects for companies in his former roles at Accenture and Deloite, make him an ideal VP lead for SmartWool’s supply chain”, said Bryden. “Chris has been a key partner in driving supply chain improvements for us in his 3 years with the company. He is a highly valued member of our leadership team and I look forward to his partnership as we continue to build this great brand”.

“Les is a tremendous addition to SmartWool and joins us from Cadbury Adams”, said Bryden. “He brings with him a deep and seasoned background in business process improvement with a focus in the demand and supply planning field. Les’s addition to the team further strengthens the SmartWool management team as we continue to build the SmartWool talent base to support future plans.”
