Leader in performance Merino apparel redesigns and expands core layering system

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2014) — Already a vanguard of Merino layering, SmartWool is pushing performance apparel forward in 2015 with a redesign and expansion of its SmartLoft and NTS Mid 250 lines.

A quality layering system starts next to skin and no material manages moisture better than Merino wool. In a recent independent study, University of Otago researchers found that subjects wearing Merino registered lower skin temperatures and increased perceived dryness than those wearing polyester.

Designed from the inside out, SmartWool’s 100-percent Merino, 250-weight baselayer is Interlock knit and features flatlock seam construction to eliminate chafing and deliver the unequalled comfort for which the brand is known.

SmartWool has restyled its NTS Mid 250 line for Fall 2015 to feature asymmetrical, color block, houndstooth and jacquard patterns. New styles this season include the Women’s NTS Mid 250 Drape Neck Hoody and Turtleneck, as well as the Boot Top Bottom for men and women.

“The traditional story of a three-layer system is changing and consumers are asking more of their midlayers. On all but the wettest days, skiers and other snowsports athletes are ditching the heavy shell and relying on the second layer to protect them from the elements,” states SmartWool men’s performance line manager Robert Thomas. “With SmartLoft, we’re able to offer insulation that provides incredible warmth without bulk, even when wet, and address the thermoregulation shortcomings inherent in synthetics.”

The new SmartLoft Corbet 120 midlayer collection features 120-gram Merino-based insulation in a variety of styles for men and women. All garments feature Merino lining for comfort and wind-resistant nylon face material treated with DWR finish to protect from the elements.

The SmartLoft line centers on the Corbet 120 Jacket for men and women. Additional styles include the men’s and women’s Corbet 120 VestCorbet 120 Printed Jacket and Double Corbet 120 Jacket, which features insulation in the front and back of the torso—a product development that comes directly from consumer feedback gained from the brand’s Fan Field Tester review program. The popular SmartLoft insulated skirt returns in the Corbet 120 line for women, two inches shorter than before.

The SmartLoft and NTS lines are easy to care for—all pieces are machine washable and dryable.

SmartWool will show the new SmartLoft and NTS collections, and its full Fall 2015 line, at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, January 21-24 in Salt Lake City, and the SIA SnowShow, January 29-February 1 in Denver.
