New collection unveils most sophisticated executions yet of casual styles offering underlying technical performance.
SEATTLE, Wash. – When it comes to technical sportswear, Outdoor Research proves that you really don’t have to choose between built-in performance and casual outward style. Underlying technical performance without the technical look is what OR sportswear is all about. And the Spring 2015 collection puts that concept into some of the most sophisticated executions yet offered.

Men’s Goldrush Jeans – They don’t necessarily look it, but these are among the most technical jeans ever made. Built with a soft cotton/nylon/Cordura-blend denim that’s four times more durable than regular denim, the Goldrush jeans are in their element groveling up a gritty chimney or taking an after work hike following by dinner on the town. Superb stretch gives them freedom of movement not found in traditional jeans, and a modern take on classic jeans styling ensures they’ll be a go-to in the everyday wardrobe. Details include back patch pockets and contrast stitching. Available in short, regular and long lengths. $99.
Men’s Harrelson Shirt – A classic linen-style shirt with technical detailing, the button-down Harrelson shirt is everyday-wear that’s perfect for travel, hot climates, and doesn’t object if your day somehow leads to the trail. Made with 55 percent hemp and 45 percent organic cotton, the fabric is lightweight, breathable and wicks moisture. Tabs on the sleeves hold them in place when rolled up, and an oversized yet concealed boarding-card pocket gives you a place to stash the passport. Coconut buttons add style. $79.
Lunch Counter Boardshorts – Surfing Wyoming’s Snake River when it’s swollen by thundering spring runoff requires boardshorts built with the same design philosophy applied to the burliest alpine climbing jackets. Made with a strechy, quick-drying polyester twill fabric, the UPF 50+ Lunch Counter Boardshorts use the same design principles learned from a quarter century of building gear for the meanest conditions on the planet, and they’re built to stand up to the biggest breaks. They feature a 21-inch outseam, a drawstring waist and a splash-proof zippered pocket for keys, cash and a driver’s license. A second set of lace holes on the waist allows more adjustability than is found on a typical pair of board shorts. $70.
Astroman Longsleeve Shirt – At home high on a wall in Yosemite or as the ultimate travel or trail shirt, the Astroman Longsleeve Shirt adds even more sun protection to its short-sleeve cousin. Made with 85 percent nylon for stout abrasion resistance, 15 percent Spandex for superb stretch, and offering UPF 50 sun protection, the Astroman is durable, breathable, dries quickly and offers excellent mobility. With front snap closures, a subtle check pattern, an understated chest pocket, and a collar that stands up and snaps together when you need added sun protection on your neck, this shirt transitions seamlessly from the vertical world to more casual endeavors at day’s end. $85.
Men’s Tisbury Shirt – With a trimmer, surf-inspired cut and a subtle vertical stripe, the button-down Tisbury shirt serves up understated style and cross-activity functionality. Made with 80 percent organic cotton and 20 percent recycled polyester, it’s got the feel of cotton but wicks and dries much more effectively.
Men’s Deadpoint Jacket – Built with out-of-the-box rugged styling that only looks better with some mileage on the odometer, the Deadpoint jacket melds durable cotton canvas fabric with casual mountain-town appeal. It’s made with 98 percent cotton, but 2 percent spandex adds just enough stretch for a stroll down the trail or a trip out to the woodshed. Detailing included front chest pockets with buttons, two handwarmer pockets, and front button closure. $99.
Men’s Zodiac Pants and Shorts – Lightweight, breathable and abrasion resistant, the UPF 50+ Zodiac Pants and Shorts offer movement-mirroring stretch thanks to their 98 percent cotton/2 percent spandex fabric, which makes them a go-to for warm-weather cragging or hiking. A gusseted crotch adds to mobility, but a versatile cut that doesn’t announce “technical” makes transitions to town refueling days easy. $75, pants; $60 shorts.
