Boulder, Colorado (Winter 2011/12) – Spyder, renowned for supporting and outfitting progressive athletes and World Cup skiers on and off the mountain, is extending its support to the sons and daughters of fallen service members. In collaboration with the Children of the Fallen Patriots Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides college scholarships and educational counseling to military children who have lost a parent in combat or training accidents, the two organizations are launching a special edition hat to promote the need for debt-free college educations.
The Fallen Patriot Hat was developed exclusively to support of the CFPF and proudly bears the Fallen Patriot logo, a profile of the iconic Minute Man. For every Fallen Patriot hat sold, Spyder will donate $5.00 to the CFPF. With all of CFPF’s operating expenses covered by volunteers every dollar donated goes to aid the children.
Since its inception in 2002, the CFPF has granted over $1.4 million in scholarships to 140 children and started a pipeline for 1,000 more. The CFPF estimates that 18,000 children have lost a parent in combat or training accidents over the last 25 years.
Tom McGann, president and CEO of Spyder, serves on the board of advisers of the foundation. “The Children of Fallen Patriots provides far more than just financial support for a college education. The encouragement and emotional support the CFPF provides inspires military children to attain their educational aspirations, which is critical to their future success. We are raising awareness and fund raising through this initial special edition hat. The service members, whom were selfless volunteers, entrusted us to be the volunteers who support their children. I strongly encourage everyone to get involved and create a positive future for the children of our fallen patriots.â€
The Fallen Patriot hat (MSRP $40.00) will be available at retailers who are supporting the program beginning October 2011. The Fallen Patriot hat has a unique grey and black urban camo design created for the CFPF. It has a wool exterior and a brushed fleece interior.
