Pioneering Woman Award

The Pioneering Woman Award, created in 2002 and celebrating its 10th anniversary during the January trade shows, honors a woman who has demonstrated a commitment to mentoring female colleagues while paving the way for other women.

Think about the women you have worked with who took the extra time to mentor or sponsor you, who recognized your potential and helped you believe in yourself. Think about the women who gave you the right advice at the right time, and helped you make smart decisions at critical junctures. Or think about the women you have admired from afar, the ones you read about and are inspired by simply because you know the great work they are doing in our industries.

These are the women OIWC recognizes each year with the Pioneering Woman Award. Now, you have the opportunity to publicly acknowledge the woman who inspires you, either as your mentor or as a leader in the entire industry. Nominate her for the Pioneering Woman Award!

First Ascent Award

Created in 2005, the First Ascent Award complements the Pioneering Woman Award by recognizing women who are in the beginning stages of their career and already showing strong leadership skills.

Recipients of the First Ascent Award are women who don’t wait to be asked to get something done. They see an opportunity, create a solution, jump in with both feet, and ask the right questions. You are confident knowing that any project these women lead will be handled professionally and eloquently, and while watching this kind of woman work, you think to yourself, “This woman could run this company someday.”

Think about a woman you know who fits this description, and nominate her for the First Ascent Award. Give her the recognition she deserves and put her in the spotlight so the entire industry knows this is a woman to watch.

Nomination Process and Award Presentations

When you submit your nomination, you will select either the outdoor or snowsports industry. The recipients of the outdoor awards will be recognized during Outdoor Retailer, and the recipients of the snowsports awards will be recognized during SIA. To be eligible to receive the awards, nominees must be able to attend the award presentation during their respective trade show.

Each award presentation is part of the OIWC Breakfast & Awards Presentation:

ORWM, January 21, 7-9am (featuring keynote speaker Donna Carpenter, President of Burton Snowboards)

SIA, January 28, 7-9am (keynote speaker announcement coming soon)
