Del Mar, CA- June 25- Seeking the ultimate race bike for mixed terrain? Well the Gaulzetti Pavaix may be your answer. With the final tests done on the cobbles of Paris-Roubaix, Summer Cycles bicycle shop is ready to launch one of the fastest and most efficient race bikes ever created.

The Gaulzetti Pavaix started as a design project in 2018 to produce a no-compromise bike for courses like Paris-Roubaix. The frame features round oversize carbon fiber tubing which maximizes torsional rigidity. The tube to tube construction allows each frame to be made to measure for the individual client athlete.
Additional layers of carbon fiber are wrapped strategically to maximize stiffness while vibration absorbing composites such as aramid are also utilized to ensure the bicycle feels planted and solid over mixed terrain.
The penultimate chapter in the development of the Gaulzetti Pavaix was a trip to the “Hell of the North” with six prototypes. Here, the day before the 2019 edition of Paris-Roubaix, six summer cycles client athletes including Summer Cycles owners Jeff Huckleberry and Craig Gaulzetti, tackled 180km and all 36 sectors of pave of the cobbled classic to finalize development of the new model.
For 117 years, Paris-Roubaix has been the ultimate test of pro cyclists and their equipment. After this ‘test’, the feedback from the athletes was universal:
- “Don’t change a thing.”
- “I would have not finished this ride were it not for this bike.”
- “I was faster, more comfortable, and more confident than ever before with the Pavaix.”
- “This is the best bike I have ever ridden.”
“Almost since its inception, bicycle companies have used success or even participation in ParisRoubaix in order to sell bicycles,” says Craig. “In recent years, the industry has used associations with this race to market things like taller headtubes, more upright riding positions, suspension and elastomers, disc brakes, larger and more flat resistant clincher tires, more compliant frames, slower and more stable handling, and lots of other features that have made road biking more accessible an less intimidating for many people.”
“Our experience shows that not many, if any, of these “features” are of benefit to anyone actually racing Paris-Roubaix- and we’d dare say they’re of questionable benefit to anyone who wants to enjoy spirited road riding. So we turned the equation on its head. What would a bicycle designed with the sole focus to win Paris-Roubaix look like? If we approached this project without any desire to commodify the sporting good- what do we end up with?”
After a final shake down test at the Belgian Waffle Ride, a grueling mixed terrain event that takes place each year in San Diego County, we were ready to announce the new model. Anyone with a moderate level of fitness can sit on a bike like a pro and benefit from the technical developments a century of professional road racing and professional frame building has produced. The new Pavaix is the culmination of all our experience, passion, and history. It is linked as much to the cobblestones of north east France as it is to the dirt roads of North County San Diego.
The Pavaix is a bicycle designed to be the fastest, most efficient race bike for unimproved road surfaces and this is as true for a ProTour athlete as it is for the enthusiastic amateur.
The Gaulzetti Pavaix is a round tubed carbon fiber racing bike optimized for 700×30 Vittoria Corsa control tubulars. It can be built for direct mount caliper brakes or flat mount disc brakes as well as hydraulic, electronic. Or cable operated shifting systems.
Sizing on the Gaulzetti Pavaix ranges from 44cm to 66cm although all bicycles are made to order for the individual client athlete. Lead times are 6-12 weeks from design confirmation. The frameset is priced at $5500 which includes the frame and fork. Complete bicycles are available nicely equipped from $7700 on up.
The Pavaix joins the Gaulzetti Aerotack and Interclub to complete the Gaulzetti model range and these bicycles are available exclusively from Summer Cycles in Del Mar, California.
