Backpacker Magazine’s Summit For Someone, along with Shasta Mountain Guides and Go Trek & Expeditions, is excited to announce two Women’s-Only climbs for its 2009 season.
Summit For Someone, the No. 1 mountaineering fundraiser in the country, has for four years provided alpine adventures to hundreds of climbers, who raise money for Big City Mountaineers’ wilderness programs for at-risk urban youth. Continuing a successful outing from last year, SFS will offer Women’s-Only climbs on Oregon’s 11,239-foot Mount Hood and California’s 14,162-foot Mount Shasta again for the 2009 season.
“Mount Hood, the highest peak in the state of Oregon, saw its first female ascent in 1867. It’s a wonderful introduction to mountaineering,” said Go Trek and Expeditions owner Craig Van Hoy. “Go Trek is proud to guide the Summit For Someone Women’s Climb in June 2009.”
The Mount Hood and Mount Shasta climbs are limited to six participants each, and will both be led by female guides from Craig Van Hoy’s Go Trek & Expeditions and Shasta Mountain Guides, respectively. The Mount Hood Women’s Climb will take place on June 24 and 25, and the Mount Shasta Women’s Climb will take place from June 26 through June 28.
The Mount Hood and Mount Shasta Women’s Climbs are just two of 20 different trips offered by Summit For Someone in 2009. Climbs range from beginner and intermediate climbs in Colorado, California, the Pacific Northwest and Wyoming to full-on expeditions in Alaska and Mexico.
