Denver, Colo. – As the popularity of volunteer vacations increases, Big City Mountaineers’ Summit for Someone program has emerged as the number one mountaineering fundraiser in the country because it gives outdoor enthusiasts a chance to travel, climb mountains and have a profound positive impact on under-resourced youth. The number of U.S. voluntourists who served more than 120 miles from home but within the U.S. exceeded 3.4 million last year. More than 1 million volunteered overseas, according to a report called “Volunteering in America,” released by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Summit for Someone (SFS) is the primary fundraiser for Big City Mountaineers (BCM), a non-profit recreational mentoring program for at-risk teens. SFS participants have an opportunity to climb 16 of the world’s premiere mountains and raise money to support BCM’s efforts at the same time. Through SFS, each participant raises enough money to send five inner city teens on a weeklong wilderness trip with a one-to-one mentor ratio.

Dennis Pinto, a passionate outdoorsman and four year SFS participant says, “SFS has been an incredibly rewarding experience for everyone involved- from myself to my contributors to the teens who ultimately benefit. The program has taken me on awesome adventures to Mt. Rainier, Whitney and Grand Teton and allowed me to make a difference in the lives of inner-city youth at the same time.”
