OGDEN, Utah (Jan. 8, 2019)

– Suunto, a global leader in sports watches, dive computers and precision instruments, announces the new Suunto Partner Program, inviting interested companies to join Suunto’s growing digital ecosystem. By opening the Suunto Cloud API, companies can join existing partners, like Strava and TrainingPeaks, to connect, engage and support Suunto’s network of engaged sports enthusiasts through the Suunto App.

“Our aim with this program is to provide best-in-class tools and services to Suunto’s community of athletes, outdoor enthusiasts and active lifestyle consumers. Growing our digital ecosystem with leading applications will help us evolve our customer-focused solutions and further develop the Suunto experience,” said Janne Kallio, the digital lead in performance business at Suunto.

Growing Ecosystem Benefits Consumers

Suunto watches have always been known as perfect companions for any outdoor or active adventure, thanks largely to the brand’s focus on robust design and athlete-inspired features. The Suunto 9, for example, features a smart battery management system, over 80 customizable sport modes and Valencell optical heartrate, making it an ideal choice for everything from trail running to weightlifting.

Although pairing a watch with the Suunto App already offers tools like workout analysis, training logs and route-finding, expanding the digital ecosystem by opening the Suunto Cloud API will allow consumers to connect with new sports communities and services that will elevate their watch experience in constantly evolving ways.

The recently announced partnerships with Strava, TrainingPeaks, Keep and UnderArmour’s Endomondo are great examples of the Suunto Partner Program in action, in that users can now easily and seamlessly sync their watches and Suunto App with these applications. As more applications join the digital ecosystem, Suunto will continue to grow the number of compatible services and thereby answer consumers’ changing needs.

Access via Suunto API Zone

Companies interested in joining Suunto’s digital partner program can apply for the free Suunto Cloud API access at Suunto’s partners site (Suunto.com/Partners). In addition to the technical integration, Suunto wants to give an opportunity for the partners to connect with the engaged sports enthusiasts of Suunto by providing various marketing and commercial collaboration possibilities.

Additional Opportunities with Movesense Platform

In addition to the Suunto Partner Program and Suunto Cloud API integration, Suunto also offers the Movesense platform for open development of motion-sensing solutions and services. Movesense consists of a set of developer tools, API, the Movesense sensor, and professional support that allow the creation of dedicated applications and services.

Hundreds of companies are already producing Movesense-based concepts, including leading ski manufacturer Atomic, which will showcase a new Movesense product for the first time during the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) at the Suunto booth (booth no. 44537).

A Collaborative Approach

In addition to the technical integration across the applications, Suunto will also encourage partners to connect with Suunto’s engaged following with opportunities for marketing and commercial collaboration.

These opportunities include participation in an affiliate sales program that will be launched later in 2019 or inclusion in the Suunto Value Pack offered for Suunto watch buyers.

Companies interested in joining Suunto’s digital ecosystem can apply for the free Suunto Cloud API access at Suunto’s partner site: www.suunto.com/partners.
