TAPS, organizer of the West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium, has donated $2500 each to the Georgia Strait Alliance (www.GeorgiaStrait.org) and People For Puget Sound (www.pugetsound.org). Each year, moneys raised by the WCSKS Silent Auction are distributed to one British Columbian and one Washington State non-profit organization that work on paddling related issues that affect the paddling community in the Pacific Northwest. In previous years, TAPS has supported Healing Waters (www.hwaters.org) and C.O.R.K. (Creative Options for Recreational Kayakers. Since 2004, TAPS has donated over $10 000 through the WCSKS.
“TAPS is committed to improving the quality of paddling experiences across North America,†states Michael Pardy, Executive Director of TAPS. “Our ongoing donations and support to organizations like the Georgia Strait and People For Puget Sound reflects our values as paddlers and as an organization,†he went on to say.
““People For Puget Sound is thrilled to be a recipient of this generous donation,†said Kathy Fletcher, the group’s executive director. “This kind of support makes a huge difference in the fight to recover the health of our precious marine waters.â€
In 2007, TAPS is supporting the International Boreal Forest Campaign run by a number of environmental non-governmental organizations. The West Coast Sea Kayak Symposium will also support two regional organizations, which will be announced in the spring.
