Professional Mountain Guide, Climber, Speaker and Humanitarian wears bamboo viscose based performance base layers to summit Everest for her sixth time

(New Orleans, LA – May 24, 2016) Bamboo performance apparel leader, tasc Performance, is honored to announce that tasc athlete, professional mountain guide and high altitude climber, Melissa Arnot, became the first American woman to summit Mount Everest 6 times, and the first to successfully complete the climb without supplemental oxygen on Monday, May 23rd. Arnot broke her own record for the most summits completed by an American woman, which she set in 2013. Also a part-time EMT and medicine instructor, Arnot has been preparing for this accomplishment for the past two years, during which she has used the tasc Performance base layer, an original blend of viscose from Bamboo, 18.5 micron Merino and Lycra, to keep her comfortable and to help with temperature regulation during her summit, training, travel and other expeditions.

“It has been an incredible journey towards reaching this this long time goal,” said Arnot. “This experience on Everest was unbelievably humbling and I feel so fortunate to be a student of this mountain and experience its continued greatness.”

“We are thrilled for Melissa and her team to reach their goal,” said tasc President Todd Andrews. “It is very gratifying for us, a small family-operated company in New Orleans, to have an athlete like Melissa trust our product in such extreme conditions. Melissa represents the originality and authenticity that we strive for as a brand. We look forward to her safe return and supporting her future endeavors.”

Melissa’s pursuit of her athletic goals as well as her dedication to the improvement of the communities around her echoes tasc’s guiding principles of authenticity and originality. In 2010, Melissa co-founded The Juniper Fund alongside fellow climber David Morton to provide support and resources for those families tragically affected by the earthquakes on Mt. Everest. In support of the fund, tasc will be donating 30% of all online sales that take place on Tuesday, May 24 to the Juniper Fund to further Melissa’s community initiatives.

The tasc base layer that was trusted by Melissa is also worn by fellow mountain guide and humanitarian, Jeff Evans, who also is very active in the Everest community, and is currently leading a high-altitude rescue team on Everest for the Travel Channel. Jeff , a physician’s assistant and EMT, is also the co-Founder of Soldiers to Summits (now Warriors to Summits) with Erik Weihenmayer, the only blind climber to summit Everest.

About tasc Performance:

tasc Performance was brought to life in 2009 with one mission: the reinvention of performance apparel. The New Orleans-based, active apparel, company was founded and is operated by the Andrews family, which has a 40-year legacy in the garment industry. Over a 2+ year period of natural fiber research and textile engineering, the BamCo® (patent-pending) fabric finishing process was created. This process combines viscose from bamboo and organic cotton to create fabrics that hit every metric: Performance (moisture wicking, drying rate, UPF 50+), Feel (absolutely amazing), and Durability (color fastness, shape retention, easy care, anti-odor). tasc now has over ten proprietary fabrics that are built for the mission of enhancing the active experience through the innovation of original fabrics.
