Team Adventure Medical Kits, an elite adventure racing team that focuses on multi-day, multi-sport expedition races, recently placed third overall in the Cameco Cowboy Tough Adventure Racing World Championships.

This year’s World Championship, hosted by the Cowboy Tough race in Wyoming on August 10-16, brought the competition to the U.S. for the very first time. Featuring sixty teams from over twenty countries, athletes raced their way from Jackson Hole to Casper, Wyoming. The course covered 450 miles over six days and included trekking, pack rafting, mountain biking, canoeing, climbing, and navigation. Team Seagate of New Zealand completed the course first with a time of 79 hours, 13 minutes, and 30 seconds. Team Haglofs/Silva of Sweden trailed 4 hours and 30 minutes behind for second, and the American squad Team Adventure Medical Kits claimed a close third only 30 minutes after.

Team Adventure Medical Kits World Championship team members included Mari Chandler, Rob Preston, Erik Sanders, and Olaf Heberg (a late replacement for Team Captain Kyle Peter who was not racing due to injury). The team’s track record of consistent results includes 1st place finishes in the last three United States Adventure Racing Association’s National Championships (USARA) and to 3rd and 4th place finishes in previous World Championships. Their success over the years has earned them the respect of the global adventure racing community.

“It was such a crazy race. We fought for a position from the very beginning and had to be extremely careful. If you made even the littlest mistake or slept for too long, you lost places quickly. Positions kept changing all the time, just incredible,” Erik Sanders said regarding the nature of the race and the team’s determination to place on their home soil.

“Safety is imperative to every adventure racing team’s success, and that’s why the team partners with us to bring Tender Corporation’s medical kits, survival gear, and insect repellent to the most remote and rugged places on earth,” said Frank Meyer, Chief Marketing Officer at Tender Corporation. “In turn, the team provides us with critical feedback on existing products and puts products in development to the test.”
